Walter Hustus collection, 1904-2000 (bulk 1942-1948).

Correspondence between Hustus and his family, many to letters and from his mother Grace Hustus, chiefly written to South Portland, Me., reflecting his activities with the 303rd Bomb Group (Hell's Angels) in England, flying 29 1/2 successful bombing missions over Germany before his plane was shot down 18 Apr. 1944 and his assignment at the German prison camp Stalag 17-B in Krems, Austria, where he remained for 13 months; military/governmental correspondence to the Hustus family, including notifications of Hustus's military promotions, MIA and POW status, and information on German prison camps and mail service; and miscellaneous correspondence to his family from friends, relatives, mothers of fellow crew members such as Anne B. Bradley of Asheville, N.C., who coordinated the correspondence.
